Instead of the World Series Game 1 or NBA Opening Night, I choose The Beautiful Game.
River Plate moves on to the Libertadores Final on aggregate.

I’m ( probably irrationally) bothered by the losing teams name... Wikipedia says:
named after the British English name for the city’s estuary,
Río de la Plata
and
Pedro Martínez saw the name “The River Plate” written at ship containers, and proposed it as a name, which was finally accepted as the official name
Which, I guess cool enough to give yourself a foreign name, except of course Plata means Silver, not Plate (Plate is from the same Latin root as Plata, but their meanings have of course diverged).

Oooo, they host Banfield tonight. Plus they are only 2 points from the top of the table.

Dunno about the fans, but she’s fine: she’s staying at the other end of the CBD and has enough brains to stay the hell away form public disturbances in foreign countries. She just sent me the news link because it’d remind me of a past experience:
B ack in 2005 we were lucky enough to see Boca Juniors play Rosario at Boca Stadium. It was the last weekend of the season and the c ha mpionship had already been d ecided, so it was basically a “friendly” and safe for tour ists to attend. B ut even so they had traffic barriers keeping the fans apart for about a mile away f ro m the sta dium, and truckloads of riot police stationed at every corner.
Fantastic experience though - the Argentine fans are futbolistas as much as team supporters, so when there’s nothing at stake they’re there for a big party and to see a great game:
any good pass, tackle or kick got massi
ve
cheering f
ro
m both sides. Didn’t stop the fanaticos in the terraces charging the chainlink fence every time a goal was scored though :-)
I t was a great game too - I’m not a huge soccer fan, but when you see a couple of the world’s best teams playing mostly just for the joy of it, you really understand why it’s called the Beautiful Game . Bo ca’s a great spectator stadium, too: it’s small and the stands are steep AF, so you’re practically sitting on the sidelines.

Eh, Silver River sounds like a pretty cool name too though.
